New hope! Now that scientists have cracked 'the talking piano' one can only imagine that cancer, global warming, poverty and nuclear proliferation are next in line. Don't get me wrong: this is pretty awesome; but I can't help but be a bit sardonic here.
I've always had a fascination with astronomy -- one of those 'boy looking up at the sky in wonder' things that I never grew out of. While I'm quite satisfied to have not made a career in stargazing, there's a certain escapist delight to be found in this exploration of the solar system. Me? I'm the infinitesimal spec staring out from the northern hemisphere of a planet so small you have to zoom in several times just to see it in perspective.
From here, it's a matter of perspective -- we are either all insignificant, or extremely special in a way we so rarely appreciate.
