The Bridge

Replace the moose and bear with a donkey and elephant and you'd have a perfect metaphor for American politics today. I'm sure Ting Tey didn't have that in mind when he made this awesome animated short; but it fits.

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs

With a focus on job creation, Obama could spare himself the strain and distraction of a re-election campaign. Just saying.

The Government's View of the Economy

"Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

-- Ronald Reagan in a speech to the White House Conference on Small Business (Aug. 15, 1985) via

This quote was deserving of a visualization :)

Finally, Justified Biblical Propaganda

Media_httpfarm2static_zccpa

From the great people of Holy Kaw, comes this shot taken at this past weekend's Rally to Restore Sanity. Check out the flickr group above for even more.

Oh, and in case you were wondering why God hates figs, here's how it all went down according to the NIV of Mark 11:12-14:

The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it.

Well now, you can't argue with that!

Death & Taxes 2011: The "SNAFU" Edition

There are only three things you can be sure of: death, taxes, and that I'll take interest in the yearly infographic that wears the name of the first two. New to the 2011 edition detailing the Federal budget comes a handy comparison across the previous decade... fiscally-minded humanoids (read: anyone who can't print their own money) should take note of the discrepancy hovering in the lower-right corner: an 8% increase in revenues against a 53% increase in expenditures.

This is a scary, indefensible and completely bipartisan SNAFU.

The Case for Saturday School

But nearly every young American needs to learn more than most are learning today, both for the sake of their own prospects and on behalf of the nation's competitiveness in a shrinking, dog-eat-dog world. Yes, it will disrupt everything from school-bus schedules to family vacations. Yes, it will carry some costs, at least until we eke offsetting savings from the technology-in-education revolution. But even Aristotle might conclude that this is a price worth paying.

This is an inevitable conclusion for the American education system -- a system which is failing not just students, but the future dominance of America's innovation economy.
