Another hypothetical sustainability concept that's being tested in London and aims to create energy from foot traffic (conversion of kinetic energy when stepped upon). How to transmit, store and utilize this energy without reworking the entire grid of a city is another matter... I'm still impressed by the simplicity of its thought and design.
I love the simple brilliance in this industrial design concept from mBLAST, which aims to use the wind of the cars whizzing by to power a generator for each streetlamp. The only problem (thinking about LA): high traffic will render them useless outside of the late night hours, in which there's less cars to generate the power anyway.
