A Simple Plan

A collection of quotes to bear in mind on this simple point, which I’ve been working on myself…

  •  I believe more in the scissors than I do in the pencil.  – Truman Capote
  •  Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. – Leonardo da Vinci
  • Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent.  It takes a touch of genius – and a lot of courage – to move in the opposite direction. – Albert Einstein
  • The most valuable of all talents is that of never using two words when one will do. – Thomas Jefferson
  • The trouble with so many of us is that we underestimate the power of simplicity. – Robert Stuberg

It’d be oxymoronic to expand this post much further; but the point – which I encounter often in my wanderings through the world is that there is real beauty and strength in simplicity. A simple concept, well executed. A simple design, which moves you. A simple life, that keeps you smiling.

As the world grows more complex, tomorrow’s innovators, artists and leaders will be those who reconnect us with simplicity: who do more with less… who understand that more is not always or necessarily better… who speak volumes with a word... who evade the crippling distraction of small, insignificant victories to pursue grander visions and reward.

Focus. Simplify.
